Five Fall Activities That Are Not Cancelled for 2020

Five Fall Activities That Are Not Cancelled for 2020

2020. Nothing is business as usual. Up is now down and down is now up. And there sure is a lot of anxiety right now as we face the return to school and to colder, harsher weather.

Fall is normally my absolute favorite season and it’s definitely a bummer that several of the usual autumn activities are canceled this year. But there is still some fall fun to be had - just this year, in a mask and 6 feet away from the next family.

5 Ways To Bring Experiences Into Your House

5 Ways To Bring Experiences Into Your House

I don’t need to tell you that we’re in the midst of a global crisis where everyone is struggling, mentally, physically, financially or some combination thereof. And I probably also don’t need to tell you that as a person who runs an activities blog for “folks who like to get out and do stuff,” sticking around the house day after day has been quite challenging.

So for whatever it’s worth, I spent part of this past rainy Sunday writing about 5 Ways To Bring Experiences Into Your House. These 5 activity options have helped my family tremendously so far, and I hope they’ll help yours. PS -This post focuses exclusively on small, local businesses and artists, each of which need our support right now - more than ever.

How to Celebrate the Holidays in the Suburbs!

How to Celebrate the Holidays in the Suburbs!

December is a very busy month. No matter what holiday(s) you celebrate, there’s always shopping, cooking, wrapping and decorating to do. Then there’s usually even more shopping.

In between all of your holiday chores this year, spend some time celebrating the season by checking out at least a few of these awesome holiday events happening locally in Westchester and Fairfield Counties. There’s so much to pick from, but these are my favorites.

Celebrate Thanksgiving in Stamford

Celebrate Thanksgiving in Stamford

I’ve never been to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in person. I’ve watched it on TV countless times but I’ve never been brave enough to battle the crowds and elements to actually get there. I’m hoping to change this fact as my kids get older but for now,  I feel really lucky to have a pretty awesome alternative nearby.

Each November, Downtown Stamford, CT transforms into a beautiful celebration of the upcoming holiday season by putting on one of the largest helium balloon parades in the entire country. And that’s only a part of what happens.

I Love Halloween!

I Love Halloween!

Halloween might be my favorite holiday. No, I'm not one of those old folks who still loves to get dressed up - but I think it is so much fun seeing my kiddies get excited to pick out costumes, and run around like crazy persons in pursuit of free candy. As they get a bit older, it'll be cool to add some haunted houses to our Halloween rotation. Basically, I gotta take it all in before they learn that Halloween also means sexy costumes and keg stands.

On that note - here are some great Halloween celebrations happening in our area!

A Few Great September Events

A Few Great September Events

Is it still summer or is it fall? Will it be hot outside or will there be a chill in the air? Should I wear jeans or shorts? These are questions we ask this time of year - and I don’t have the answers. I can, however, help with the question of what to do as a family this September. See below!

Sunday Morning at Elephant's Trunk Flea Market

Sunday Morning at Elephant's Trunk Flea Market

Elephant’s Trunk is a huge and well known flea market in New Milford, CT. As a person who likes modern design, I don’t usually seek out antiques or vintage stuff. But as an activity blogger living in CT, I knew I must check this spot out.

Elephant’s Trunk is open only on Sunday mornings from early April until early December. The flea market started in 1976 with just a handful of vendors, but these days around 500 vendors and food trucks greet huge crowds each Sunday.

Don't Miss These April Season Openings

April is a month where a lot of folks wake up from their winter hibernation to once again head outdoors and enjoy some fresh air again. And knowing this, many seasonal businesses choose April as the time to re-open for the warm weather season.

Let me know in the comments if you make it to any of these while I’m away. I can’t wait to check them out when we’re back.

Maypoles, Matzoh and Easter Bunnies!

This year we’ll be in Hawaii (!!!) for Passover and Easter. Yup, you’ll be seeing more hula dances than bunnies and Seder plates at Donuts at the Disco this April. But this spring loving mama is still keeping tabs on the fun spring happenings in our area. Here are some of the events I am most bummed about missing (in chronological order).
