Get Yourself to Burrata Wood Fired Pizza

Get Yourself to Burrata Wood Fired Pizza

Burrata Wood Fired Pizza has been open since 2012 in Eastchester, NY. We don’t live all that close by, so it took us way too long to get here. But on the advice of a good friend, we finally tried it last month and, well, it was so crazy delicious that we came back again last weekend, but this time with 10 additional family members. Even with such a large, unruly (our party included 4 young kids) group, Burrata Wood Fired Pizza came strong.

The execution of the dishes is what makes Burrata Wood Fired Pizza a great restaurant, but before I even get to what you’re putting in your mouth, I must first give the restaurant credit for its menu. It is simple but elegant. There are Italian basics done extremely well on that menu, along side more interesting, less “safe” offerings done just as well. You can visit this restaurant with picky eaters and adventurous eaters, and everyone will find something to make her happy.

Sparklicious is Precious

Sparklicious is Precious

If your kid loves all things pink and glitter, take them to Sparklicious in Mount Kisco ASAP. My goodness is this place adorable. My younger daughter - who very much falls into the pink glitter category - was made to feel like royalty here. And I was just super jealous the whole time.

A Night at Kalahari in the Poconos!

A Night at Kalahari in the Poconos!

Last weekend we made our first visit to Kalahari Resorts in the Poconos. Previously knowing nothing about the world of indoor water parks, I am happy to report that I came back as a fan. You only need or want one night at Kalahari. And if you go with a low key attitude and with your kids’ interests at heart (and my below tips in mind), I promise you, that one night at Kalahari will actually be a lot of fun.

MoMath MoFun?

MoMath MoFun?

Ugh math. It always was my least favorite school subject. Even now, while I mostly read and write as a corporate lawyer, I cringe whenever calculations sneak their way into my job. But my second grader is learning so much about math at school now, so I figured a visit to the Museum of Math in NYC was in order.

Westchester Has a Children's Museum

Westchester Has a Children's Museum

About two years ago Westchester finally landed itself an official children’s museum. It’s small and it can seem minimalist compared to something like Philly’s Please Touch, but I think Rye’s Westchester Children’s Museum brings something much needed to our area. Plus it’s got a pretty beautiful location.

Just Go to Just Kidding at Symphony Space

Just Go to Just Kidding at Symphony Space

We recently saw our first children’s show at Manhattan’s Symphony Space. The Doubtful Sprout, a one woman puppet show by Liz Joyce, was an absolute JOY(ce) to watch.

Though this show has moved on, Symphony Space continues to offer family focused performances each Saturday through the cold winter months as part of their ongoing, Just Kidding Series. And if you’re a Westchester or Fairfield County family like we are, driving to Symphony Space is a snap. Located at 95th and Broadway, the theater is not too far from our northern suburban towns!

Valentines Day Reminds Me of Chocolate

Valentines Day Reminds Me of Chocolate

Cold out? Kids off from school? Valentines Day around the corner? I have an idea for you. Bring them to Chocolate Works, where they can make and decorate their own adorable chocolate molds. It’ll be fun AND you can call it their Valentines Day gift!

Note: This post is about Chocolate Works in Darien, CT. Chocolate Works is a national chain and some or all of the below may apply globally but I have only visited the Darien location.

Legit Counter Service Filipino Food in Nyack

Legit Counter Service Filipino Food in Nyack

As a food obsessed parent living in the suburbs, I am ALWAYS lamenting the lack of really good food in casual settings around here. In NYC there is plenty of ethnic food, street food and even killer slice joints that you can quickly pop into or take out from for a great meal. With some notable exceptions, in the suburbs, your choices are often limited to chain spots like Chipotle, forgettable pizzerias or hunkering down in a waiter service restaurant for a full service meal. Spoiler alert: Kiddies don’t always love sitting still at a table for awhile.

For this reason and several others that I’ll get into, I was super excited when I learned that Jeff Gordinier, Food and Drinks Editor for Esquire Magazine, included Nyack’s casual Filipino newcomer, Karenderya, in his rundown of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants In America, 2018.

PEZ Are Made in CT!

PEZ Are Made in CT!

I only learned recently that PEZ Candies are made less than an hour from my house! Not only that, but there’s a PEZ Visitor Center with fun goings on less than an hour from my house! The good news for me is that I don’t eat candies that aren’t made of chocolate. The bad news for me is that the same does not apply to my kids. They love PEZ and so, off we went recently to check out the PEZ Visitor Center in Orange, CT.

Fun for All in LIC!

Fun for All in LIC!

Last summer I wrote a post about our family’s day in Astoria, Queens. The post mentioned our “signature” move of combining a kid-friendly activity with nearby adult-friendly eats or drinks. This weekend we took that same move to neighboring Long Island City, Queens and had a colder, but equally awesome day in Queens with our kids.
