A Few Great September Events

Is it still summer or is it fall? Will it be hot outside or will there be a chill in the air? Should I wear jeans or shorts? These are questions we ask this time of year - and I don’t have the answers. I can, however, help with the question of what to do as a family this September. See below!

New York Renaissance Faire, Tuxedo, N Y

Weekends through October 6

I am so excited for this one! The New York Renaissance Faire comes again to Tuxedo, NY - not far from Westchester or Fairfield Counties - to enchant guests with themed games, rides, performances and of course, jousts. Kids will love seeing all the costumed performers and attractions from days of yore. Check the Faire’s website for different themed weekends and events happening during the Faire’s run.

Tickets can be purchased in advance and used any day during the Faire’s run. Adults tickets cost $29.95 and children’s tickets are $13 (free for age 4 and under). Tickets include access to all entertainment and performances. Rides, carnival games and food vendors will cost extra.

The Norwalk Oyster Festival, Norwalk, CT

Sept 6th from 6pm to 11pm

Sept 7th from 11am to 11pm

Sept 8th from 11am to 8pm

Now in its 42nd year, the Norwalk Seaport Association’s Oyster Festival celebrates the end of summer with a weekend long tribute to - you guessed it - oysters! Besides celebrating the history of Norwalk’s oyster industry, the event features live music, art vendors, food vendors and an entire “Kids’ Cove” with performances, face painters, activities and even some carnival rides.

The event takes place in Norwalk’s Veteran’s Memorial Park. Tickets are $10 for adults on Friday evening and $12 on Saturday or Sunday. Kids age 5-12 are $5 on Friday and Saturday and FREE on Sunday.

21st Annual Fall Festival & Hawk Watch, Greenwich, CT

September 15th from 12:30pm to 5:30pm

I’m not sure that there is any local event I enjoy more than the Audubon Greenwich Fall Festival and Hawk Watch. The fall themed carnival games, crafts and petting zoo are a great way to transition as a family into fall. There are also yummy food vendors on offer and if the weather cooperates, it’s just a nice time of year to be outside celebrating.

But the real reason to attend this event each year is the Hawk Watch activities.  A rehabilitated hawk will be released back into the wild during the event, and do NOT miss the Live Raptor Shows happening throughout the day. There you will learn about and witness beautiful - and a little bit scary - birds of prey. It’s absolutely mind-blowing and I look forward to that show every year. Oh and also owls are the cutest things on earth!!

Hop Culture Presents: Juicy Brews Hudson Valley

September 28th from 1pm to 4pm

The weather will be crisp and so will the beers. The Hudson Valley is well known in the craft beer industry for producing some of the tastiest, juiciest brews in the country. This September, head up to Beacon, NY - we’re talking an hour or less from Manhattan and Westchester - for the family friendly, outdoor Juicy Brews Hudson Valley festival.

Kids are FREE with a paying adult and there will be lawn games and a moon bounce to entertain them while mom and dad relax in the sun with some killer beers. $60 per adult gets you admission to the event plus unlimited 4 oz pours from the breweries in attendance. There will be food available for purchase and a lot of good cheer to go around (seriously, craft beer people are the nicest people and there’s a BIG overlap between craft beer drinkers and owners of cute dogs, too!)

The event takes place at Pete and Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park, 2 Red Flynn Drive in Beacon - just off the Metro North train station.
